Ben Doddington

Ben works as a Graduate Geophysicist at BP. He studied a BSc in Geophysics at Durham University.

Can you give a brief description of what the company/employer does and how your role fits in?

The company explores and retrieves oil, gas, amongst other energy solutions such as wind and carbon capture. As a Geophysicist, I will primarily work in the analysis and interpretation of seismic data.

What does a typical day in your working life look like?

Start in September. In my internship, I was working on programming solutions for geophysical analysis.

What was your pathway to what you do for your job now?

Geophysics degree, internship, graduate job.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career like yours?

A wide range of scientific skills come into this job, and it is useful to learn a variety of other tools such as programming. It is also important to learn business and teamwork skills, as being able to work well with other people can be just as important as what you know.
